Minister Avcı participates in the 2nd Turkish World Science Olympics ceremony

Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı said, “The sense of science we inherited is based on working for the good of humanity. You cannot come across scientific studies based on the idea of dominating other countries or communities or producing mass destruction weapons in our history.”

Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı thanked all students and teachers who participated in the “2nd Turkish World Science Olympics” during his speech at the opening of the event. 

Minister Avcı thanked Eskişehir Governorship and Educational Volunteers Foundation of Turkey for playing host to Turkish World Science Olympics for the last two years. This year a hundred contestants from total of 12 countries including the ones in Balkans have participated in the Science Olympics. 

Noting that representatives from all parts of Turkish World have attended the Olympics, Minister Avcı stressed, “Playing host to such an activity has a special meaning for us. We are the natural and permanent heirs of great scientists that have contributed to science. Inventions and discoveries of Farabi, Ibn Sina, Ali Kuşçu and Harizmi is in the codes of civilization. Being heirs of such scientists that served humanity is increasing our responsibility. 

Minister Avcı stated that the very first known university of the World was founded on these lands adding that Turkey did not only consider madrasahs in İstanbul but also the ones located in Tashkent, Buhara, Damascus and Baghdad as the inheritance to its civilization.

Minister Avcı, stressed that Turkey is a heir of glorious knowledge adding that, “We have inherited a sense of science that is based on working for the good of humanity. You cannot come across scientific studies based on the idea of dominating other countries or communities or producing mass destruction weapons in our history. We are proud of this inheritance of our scientists who worked for the benefit of all people. They were the scientists of the Islam world. They have worked in line with “most blessed of human kind is the one who served humanity” that is the principle of our religion. We know that they have left inventions that we are proud of, not ashamed of. This should be the path of upcoming scientific researches.”

Minister Avcı noted that Turkish World Science Olympics is the reflection of this sense and it paved the way for students and teachers of Turkish World to come together in a common platform and exchange their experiences and studies in an effort to work for the benefit of humanity. 

“I hope that this Olympics would go on for many years and provide opportunity to raise new scientists. I wish that we would name this Olympics as feasts in the future I am sure that students who participated in this activity will embrace this inheritance” said Minister Avcı. 

Total of 1.275 people both from Turkey and abroad have applied in order to compete in the “Design and Invention” category of the Science Olympics and 60 applications from Turkey and 40 applications from abroad were accepted. 

Minister Avcı visited the stands and received information from students about their projects.
